Rarity (レアリティ Reariti) is a rough indicator of how frequently a card appears in booster packs. The rarity of a card is indicated by the alphabet initials and the color of horizontal bars on the top of the collector number (vertical bars on the left side of the collector number for cards with old frame). Generally, the more colored bars a card has in its rarity indicator, the higher its rarity.

The rarity of a card has no effect on the gameplay and only serves for collecting purpose.

Regular Rarities

Common

Rarity C

Common (コモン Komon) cards are indicated by the initial C and one colored bar. Common cards has no special characteristic on its surface.

Regular booster packs always contains 4 Common cards. If a pack would have a Super Rare, extra rarities, or Hologram Rare, one of the Commons will be replaced with said card.

This rarity are discontinued from Set 20 onward and replaced by the Normal rarity.

Uncommon

Rarity UC

Uncommon (アンコモン Ankomon) cards are indicated by the initial UC and two colored bars. Uncommon cards has no special characteristic on its surface, not unlike Common. However, stats and effect wise, they are slightly more powerful than Common and harder to find.

Regular booster packs always contains 2 Uncommon cards.

Similar to Common, this rarity are also discontinued from Set 20 onward and replaced by the Normal rarity.

Normal

Normal (ノーマル Nōmaru) cards are indicated by the initial N and one colored bar. Normal cards has no special characteristic on its surface.

This rarity appears in Set 20 onward as replacement for the Common and Uncommon rarity with regular booster packs now contains 5 Normal cards instead of 4 Common and 2 Uncommon. Similar to Common, a Normal card will be replaced if that pack would have a card with rarity other that Normal or Rare.

Rare

Rarity R

Rare (レア Rea) cards are indicated by the initial R and three colored bars (two colored bars in Set 20 onward). Rare cards has holographic coating over its surface.

Regular booster packs always contains 1 Rare card. Small-sized extra packs that only comprised of Rare or higher rarity cards contains 3 Rare cards in each packs. From Set 20 onward, regular booster packs now contains 2 Rare cards.

Super Rare

Rarity SR

Super Rare (スーパーレア Sūpā Rea) cards are indicated by the initial SR and four colored bars. Super Rare cards has holographic coating over its surface and silver foil on its Type, Cost, Color, card name, Power, and border pattern.

For the Hologram Rare version of Super Rare, the name and text border are removed, showing the full artwork. The card name were moved onto different location on the artwork and printed in larger and different font. The silver foils were changed into gold foils, and—for cards with old frame—the silhouette for unused Color were removed.

On regular booster packs, there is a 1:4 chance to get a Super Rare (5 SR per booster box) and additionally, 1:20 chance to get a Hologram Rare of Super Rare (only from from Set 13 onward). Small-sized extra packs contains 1 Super Rare card in each packs.

Constructed decks always contains three Super Rare cards on each deck: one Player and two Partner Z/X (doubles into two Player and four Partner on Starter Deck Vol.3). From Starter Deck Vol.4 onward, there are five Super Rare cards on each deck: one Player, two Partner Z/X, and two additional Z/X. The Super Rare Z/X on constructed decks are always printed as both regular Super Rare and Hologram Rare variant.

Heroic Rare

Heroic Rare (ヒロイックレア Hiroikku Rea) cards are indicated by the initial HR and four colored bars. It has similar characteristics to the Hologram Rare version of Super Rare. There exist two different kind of Heroic Rare: the regular version with gold foils, and the "secret" version with rainbow foils which are counted as extra rarity.

This rarity appears in Set 20 onward. A booster box will always contain 1 Heroic Rare card inside.

Dragon Rare

Rarity DR

Dragon Rare (ドラゴンレア Dragon Rea) cards are indicated by the initial DR and five colored bars. It has similar characteristics to the Hologram Rare version of Super Rare.

This rarity appears in Extra Pack 7: Code:Dingir - Dragonic Order and Extra Pack 9: Summer Dragon. A box of Extra Pack 7 or Extra Pack 9 will always contain 1 Dragon Rare card inside.

Nippon Ichi Rare

Rarity NHIR

Nippon Ichi Rare (日本一レア Nippon Ichi Rea) cards are indicated by the initial 日本一R and five colored bars. It has similar characteristics to the Hologram Rare version of Super Rare.

This rarity appears in Extra Pack 8: Nippon Ichi Software 3. A box of Extra Pack 8 will always contain 1 Nippon Ichi Rare card inside.

Capcom Rare

Capcom Rare (カプコンレア Kapukon Rea) cards are indicated by the initial CR and two colored bars. It has similar characteristic to Rare cards.

This rarity appears in Booster 21: Code:Samsara - Seed of Rebellion onward and is used on the Capcom collaboration cards.

Extra Rarities

The extra rarities were used on cards with additional collector numbers (usually numbered 101 and above in a regular 100 cards sets) and has similar characteristics to Hologram Rare version of Super Rare. These rarities are always indicated by the rarity initials and five colored bars.

On regular booster packs, there is a 1:20 chance to get an extra rarity card (1 card per booster box) instead of Hologram Rare SR.

Z/X Rare

Rarity ZXR

Z/X Rare (ゼクスレア Zekusu Rea) cards are indicated by the initial Z/XR on the left side of the collector number.

This rarity is used on cards that was also given out from the Point Campaign, which usually numbered from 101 to 103 (numbered from 101 to 105 on Set 13 until Set 19) on a regular set list.

IGOD Rare

Rarity IGR

IGOD Rare (アイゴッドレア Aigoddo Rea) or Ignition Overdrive Rare cards are indicated by the initial IGR on the left side of the collector number. This rarity is exclusively used on Player cards until Set 15, and mostly serves as the rarity for "secret" or "teaser" cards in the recent sets before being used on Player cards again from Set 19 onward.

Beside the aforementioned characteristics, the flavor text on IGOD Rare cards are written in a similar manner to the card name. From Set 9 onward, IGR Player cards were printed in a slightly different card frame with the card name printed in English instead on Japanese. IGR Z/X cards has the same frame and appearance as regular Hologram SR Z/X cards.

Ultra Rare

Rarity UR

Ultra Rare (ウルトラレア Urutora Rea) cards are indicated by the initial UR on the left side of the collector number.

So far, this rarity only appear on cards that was "reprinted" from the older sets, such as B10-111 "Serpent of Chaos, Yamata no Orochi" and B17-109 "Guide of Fate, Chloe". On the Ultra Rare version of "Serpent of Chaos, Yamata no Orochi", the width of the text area were reduced to about half of its regular size, showing more area of the card's artwork unobstructed by text.

Character Voice Rare

Rarity CVR

Character Voice Rare (キャラクターボイスレア Kyarakutā Boisu Rea) or CV Rare for short are indicated by the initial CVR on the left side of the collector number. This rarity is exclusively used on Player cards up until Set 13, Set 14 onward started to include Z/X with this rarity.

The appearance of CVR cards are similar to IGOD Rare cards, with the only difference are the foiled sign of the character's voice actor/actress on the card's surface. From Set 9 onward, CVR cards were printed in a slightly different card frame similar to IGR cards. CVR Z/X card has the same frame and appearance as regular Hologram SR Z/X cards plus the foiled sign.

Other

Free

Main article: Free Card
Rarity F

Free (フリー Furī) is the rarity that is exclusively used on the free cards. This rarity is indicated by the initials F and no colored (all-white) bars.

Promotional

Rarity PR

Promotional (プロモ Puromo) is the rarity that is exclusively used on promotional cards. This rarity is indicated by the initials PR and no colored (all-white) bars.

Sometimes, promotional cards were reprinted on constructed decks, or in rare case, regular sets. In that case, they are treated as Rare (with similar holographic coating) but still retain the Promotional rarity on the card.

Hologram Rare

Hologram Rare (ホログラムレア Horoguramu Rea) or Holo for short, are cards with holographic foil on its surface. With few exceptions, there exist Hologram Rare version for every cards with regular rarities (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare). With the exception of Super Rare cards, there are no visual differences between the regular rarities and the Hologram Rare except for the foiled surface.

On regular booster packs, there is a 1:4 chance to get a Hologram Rare where they always replaced a Common card regardless of the Hologram Rare original rarity (5 Hologram Rare per booster box). Additionally, there is also a chance to get a Hologram Rare version of Super Rare instead of extra rarity card on regular booster packs, which makes it possible to obtain 6 SR from a booster box (and a total of 6 Hologram Rare).

From Set 13 onward, the total amount of Hologram Rare that can be obtained from a booster box is increased from 6 cards (5 Holo C~R and 1 Holo SR or extra rarity card) to 7 cards (5 Holo C~R, 1 Holo SR, and 1 extra rarity card).
